About Dr. Picken

Dr. Harold Picken has over three decades of healthcare expertise, having practiced medicine and served in leadership roles across a diverse range of care settings. He is passionate about working with physician executives and healthcare leaders to transform their organizations in order to thrive in an increasingly competitive market.

Harold has been a clinical and physician leader in acute inpatient care, intensive care units, skilled nursing facilities and home care settings. He has worked extensively as a coach and trusted adviser for physician leaders ranging from new medical directors to physician group chief executive officers (CEOs). His range of experience gives him deep insight into the impact that changes in organizational culture, behaviors and habits can have on improving care and the patient experience.

Harold is Huron’s physician lead for consumer and care transformation work. Much of his consulting work involves collaborating with leaders at complex healthcare systems and academic health systems to improve physician and leader engagement. He focuses on helping healthcare organizations develop more consumer-driven cultures, operations and clinical delivery models.

Prior to joining Huron, Harold served as a vice president in two regional Blue Cross plans, as well as chief medical officer for several healthcare technology companies, including a telemedicine organization. Clinically, he trained in internal medicine and pulmonary and critical care medicine. He practiced medicine at several organizations, including the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Center for Chest Disease. He has also been an instructor in the department of health policy and management at the Harvard School of Public Health.
